The whole wide world has gone behind closed doors momentarily. We have hidden from each other by medical and health directives as if the world has no business doing outside. We have been cajoled and tamed to refrain from carrying out our normal routines, we have been told to behave like the ant who keeps food in its habitat for the danger of flood or draught.
There is a lock down in Accra as there is in Johannesburg, Lagos is locked down as Kigali is locked down. Italy is locked down as Spain and France is locked down. Mother earth groans for her children. She groans among the Africans as she groans in Europe and America. In Asia, Australia and among the Caucasians there is no peace and calm everywhere. We have been locked inside while a starved lion stands at our door step. The lion that bears the name corona virus and is hash tagged COVID-19.
Dear Corona, I can’t imagine how fast your fame came. Your fame takes over the fame of all global activities. Uefa Champions league is not well talked about these days, EPL and Spanish LA Liga has been halted since you came. Elections and campaign songs on our radio and TV stations have now been suspended till further notice. You are too selfish like a woman who strives to be alone with her husband. Ever since you came, you have threaten us not to go out for our daily bread, we pleaded to go to our various places of worships, you turned it down, social and recreational centers, you threatened to oppress us should we dare. Now you have asked us not to moarn and perform our normal funeral rights for our dead folks. How can you be so atrocious? You take children away as you take the youth and aged. You consume the rich, middle class and the poor.You don’t respect personality or position.
A pandemic has hit the earth, a pandemic of too many information. An infodemic! Too many is said about you oh Corona!. Some say you are a virus, others say you are a biological weapon, they said you originated from the sea in Wuhan, others say it is a fallacy, they said you were conceived and brought up in the chemical laboratory to strike world population and to suppress economies. The true north of the whole story is that you are deadly, you are wicked, you don’t show any reverence to persons.
The word boasted of great medics and paramedics, sophisticated weapons and highly powerful technologies but you still vanquished us. We have sent our researchers to go find a vaccine to combat you, but we still lie in wait for them. You are writing the obituary of too many people and nations. The world is no more a happy place. The only good thing you have done since your inception is that you have succeeded in drawing most people to their maker. You have demonstrated that all men are born equal. For that you did perfectly well. But we cannot praise you much because your demerits outweighs your merits.
But we are robust, we will survive because we are indestructible. Ask your predecessors, SARS, small pox, Spanish flu and Ebola. They came as you have come but the human race did not kowtow and stoop to their threat. So shall we triumph over you after a short while. We will be great again because we’re born great. We will overcome because we’re overcomers. You will be spoken about in historical context soon and your obituary will be written for ever and ever.
